Victoria Nanor: A Mother’s Journey from Unimaginable Loss to Renewed Hope

Some stories remind us just how much strength a mother can carry. Victoria Nanor’s journey is one marked by unimaginable loss, resilience, and an unwavering determination to give her children a better life. After getting married, Victoria moved to her husband’s community with hopes of building a happy family. But instead of the life she had imagined, she faced years of heartbreak. Victoria gave birth ten times, losing seven of her children shortly after birth. Alongside the emotional pain of burying her babies, she endured multiple surgeries and countless difficult recoveries. Yet she never lost hope. Eventually, hope arrived. Her eighth child survived, and the family named her Bejina, meaning “the child who has come to stay.” Soon after, Victoria welcomed another child, a baby boy, who also survived. After years of grief, joy finally returned to their home. Sadly, that happiness was short-lived. Victoria’s husband later passed away after suffering from an undiagnosed kidney condition. While grieving, she expected the support of her late husband’s family. Instead, they took possession of the family’s property and left her with nothing. With nowhere else to turn, Victoria returned to her elderly parents’ small wooden home with her children. Today, they all share a single-room wooden house, where Victoria and her children sleep on the floor. Every day is a struggle to provide food, and earning a living has become a constant challenge.

To support her family, Victoria spends her days collecting discarded plastic bottles and other recyclable materials, walking long distances for an income that is barely enough to feed her children. The financial hardship also forced her children out of school, leaving their future uncertain. Hoping to rebuild her life, Victoria later entered another relationship and had another child. But after promising to travel in search of work, the child’s father never returned, leaving her once again to raise her children alone. Despite every setback, Victoria has never stopped fighting for her family. Her story reached Smile4mation through a nomination from a caring member of her community. When our team visited Victoria, we witnessed not only the hardship she was living through but also the incredible resilience that had carried her this far.

Through the Smile4mation Single Mothers Project, we are helping Victoria rebuild her life. Our support includes relocating her family into a safer home, renovating their living space, enrolling her children back in school, and providing financial support to help her start a small business so she can earn a sustainable income. At Smile4mation, we believe that every mother deserves the opportunity to provide a safe and hopeful future for her children. Victoria’s story is not defined by the tragedies she has endured. It is defined by her courage to keep going, her love for her children, and the hope that a community willing to care can transform lives. Together, we are helping Victoria write a new chapter, one built on dignity, opportunity, and hope.
